HOLIDAY IN CUBA

If the Caribbean is one of your favourite holiday destinations, why not consider a holiday in Cuba. The island has undergone a remarkable transformation from its revolutionary image since it was opened to world tourism in the 1990’s. Although a blockade of sorts is still operated by the USA, this has prevented reckless commercial building along its coastline and has preserved pristine white beaches that are just waiting for you to discover them.

Cuba is the largest island in the West Indies and lies only 90 miles south of Key West in Florida at the mouth of the Gulf of Mexico. With its diverse scenery, exotic bird and wildlife, colonial cities, great music, beautiful beaches and fascinating people, you can explore and experience a “different” Caribbean island. Visit between December and April to enjoy the best of its sub-tropical climate. March and April are the quietest times.

Stay in a luxury hotel in Havana. A romantic World Heritage site in a city of faded grandeur where time seems to have stopped in the 1950’s. The Spanish colonial architecture and classic American cars lend a unique charm to this beautiful city. In the capital soak up the atmosphere in the Habana Viejo (the old city). A must is a visit to the fascinating city of Santiago de Cuba which is the mecca for samba, rhumba and jazz music enthusiasts from around the world. Another must see is Camaguey a relaxed and artistic, old city and a beautifully preserved relic of the colonial period. Sun worshippers should head for the 5 star resorts at Varadero to enjoy the fine sand beaches, diving and deep sea fishing.

The island is a bird watchers and wildlife lover’s paradise. At least 380 bird species have been recorded in Cuba, ranging from the Bee Humming bird – the smallest in the world- to the Pink Flamingo. The Baracoa region is home to crocodiles, turtles, snakes (non-poisonous!) and the Almiqui, the world’s smallest mammal. So for you wildlife lovers and photographers this is a wonderful and unique experience.

For those with the smoking habit, visit the Partagas and Romeo y Julieta cigar factories in Havana. There you will have ample opportunity to sample and purchase the wares and don’t forget the famous Cuban rum to go with that after dinner cigar.

Enjoy your holiday in Cuba, the beaches, the cities the vibrant nightlife and that famous salsa beat.
