CYPRUS - THE ISLAND OF LOVE

If the idea of an overseas wedding appeals to you, then Cyprus must be high on the list of wedding destinations. To tie the knot, celebrate the union or renew love; this is the island where love was born. After all, the Goddess of Love - Aphrodite - emerged from the sea in 3200 BC and despite the date, her amorous spirit still lingers. With 300 days of sunshine, the blue, warm, Mediterranean and the legendary hospitality of the people, Cyprus provides the ultimate wedding and honeymoon location.

Within the romantic framework of Cyprus the island’s hotel industry offers a choice of great indoor and outdoor venues to tailor  special dreams to your personal needs. The top hotels offer all the support services you could ever wish for. These include limousines, music, photography, floral decorations, hairdressing, beauty treatments - in fact anything you require for the special day.

Protestant, Anglican and Catholic church wedding services are held in English in the major towns. Applications must first be made to the Marriage Officer in any Municipality in Cyprus and the couple must produce:

Passports

Birth Certificates

Decrees of Absolute (if divorced)

Death Certificate (widow or widower)

In the case of a Catholic marriage a Registry Office ceremony must be concluded prior to the church wedding. You should advise your local priest who will advise you which documents you will be required to present to the priest in Cyprus.

In the case of Civil marriage, there are two kinds of weddings:

Marriage by Notice and Marriage by Special Licence. The former requires a notice of 15days and a minimum stay of 20 days in Cyprus. The Special Licence can be performed within 3-4 days. The documents required are the same as those for a church wedding. Ceremonies can take place in the Town Hall of your chosen resort or in certain licenced hotels. A Mayor or Marriage Officer can perform the ceremony in English.  Detailed information is available from the Union of Cyprus Municipalities Tel: +357 22 44 51 70  e mail endeky@cytanet.com

Note that hotel accommodation is limited during the months of June, July and August and that temperatures hover around 40C in those months. Many couples plan a short visit to Cyprus to view the various locations to ensure the perfect setting for that special day. We hope that you enjoy the romantic Island of Cyprus
